How you feel about your smile is directly tied to your level of confidence in face-to-face interaction. Today, your dentist has the ability to use revolutionary products and techniques to help you achieve a naturally beautiful smile. For several years, dental veneers have been growing in popularity, and for good reason.
Of the many cosmetic dental treatments used today, veneers have the flexibility to mask a number of imperfections, ranging from gaps between teeth to chips and cracks. Veneers may be fabricated from various substances. Porcelain veneers are incredibly popular due to the natural tendencies of this material. Porcelain so closely mimics natural enamel that a single tooth can be covered with this type of veneer without diminishing the natural smile aesthetic.
Veneers are shells of material that are extremely thin. These covers are custom crafted to match surrounding teeth, or to elevate the overall smile with a brighter tone with multiple veneers covering all visible teeth. Once perfected in shape, size, and color, veneers are then bonded to the exterior surface of teeth, where they permanently improve the smile.
Standard porcelain veneers are crafted in a dental lab after teeth have been prepared in our office. The preparation of teeth for veneers includes the removal of a small amount of enamel from the surface. This step allows flush positioning of veneers against the gums. For a comfortable process, the treatment area will be numbed with local anesthetic. After teeth are prepared, we will take an impression to be sent to the dental lab.
Lumineers® At Smile Brighter Willoughby Hills Explained By Dr. Michael Stern
What are Lumineers®? How can Lumineers® make your smile look perfect? In this video Dr. Michael Stern from Smile Brighter Willoughby Hills, OH explains all you need to know about Lumineers®. Watch the video to learn more.
What are Lumineers®?
Lumineers® is the brand name for dental veneers. Veneers are a very thin shell of porcelain that goes on the front of teeth in general. It is used to change shape, color, and to mask stains or imperfections.
Who is an ideal candidate for Lumineers® and how are they placed?
Lumineers® are done by contouring a small surface of the tooth enamel. The contouring is determined in advance by the Lumineers® studio in California after we send the models and photos of what the patients want their teeth to look like.
An ideal candidate will have teeth in reasonably good shape, but they just do not look right. And they also don’t want to go through more invasive procedures such as capping or crown.
A majority of our patients who have Lumineers® do not have local anesthetic at all. Most of the work is done in two planned appointments and a few other appointments, which follow to fine-tune the look.
Lumineers® do not stain and are referred to as permanent whitening. In most cases, patients can have a normal diet, and it is preferred that they don’t try to open bottles using their teeth.
Because veneers are made in a dental lab, there is a span of about ten days during which teeth may feel slightly sensitive to temperatures. After the permanent veneers are bonded to teeth, sensitivity should decrease.
More recently, LUMINEERS have come into the market, providing an alternative to traditional veneers. These veneers are ultra-thin, fitting onto existing tooth structure and thus eliminating the need to remove surface enamel. LUMINEERS are ideal for those who are unsure about the commitment to permanent tooth alteration, or who would prefer to avoid this step for other reasons.
