What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a popular restorative solution for patients who have more than one adjacent missing tooth. This treatment is designed to bridge the gap between one or missing teeth, hence its name. Bridges consist of natural-looking prosthetics, called pontics, which replace your missing teeth.
Reasons for Dental Bridges
There are many reasons why patients choose dental bridges as their restorative solution, including:
- Fill the space left by missing teeth
- Maintain facial shape
- Prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of proper alignment
- Restore chewing and speaking ability
- Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance
The Dental Bridge Process
Receiving your dental bridge is a quick and easy process that can be completed in two appointments with Dr. Stern. During your initial consultation, Dr. Stern will prepare the anchor teeth by gently removing a small amount of enamel and capping them with porcelain crowns for increased strength. Detailed impressions of your teeth will be taken in order to create your customized bridge as well.
In about two weeks your bridge will be ready and you’ll return to our Willoughby Hills office. Dr. Stern will check to ensure the fit and appearance are perfect before fixing the bridge into place. Once it’s secure and you’re happy with the bridge, you’ll leave our office ready to enjoy all the benefits of a stunning smile.
What Is a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are protective caps designed to fit over your natural teeth. Crowns can be used to repair teeth that are decayed or badly damaged, restoring their strength and appearance. Our crowns are made from durable porcelain and customized to match your natural teeth, ensuring a radiating appearance with long-lasting results.
Reasons for Dental Crowns
Dr. Stern recommends dental crowns for a variety of reasons, including:
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Severely decayed teeth
- Weakened or worn-down teeth
- Teeth with oversized fillings
If you need to replace a missing tooth, Dr. Stern will most likely recommend a dental implant topped with a customized porcelain crown.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns provide patients with a number of benefits, such as:
- Non-invasive procedure
- Customized crown for maximum comfort
- Crowns are available in natural shades to blend in with your smile
- The crowns process is completed in two appointments
- Crowns can prevent you from needing additional treatments
The Dental Crowns Process
Typically, dental crowns can be placed in two appointments.
Your First Appointment
At your first appointment with Dr. Stern, he’ll prepare your tooth. The preparation consists of reshaping the tooth so the crown can perfectly fit over it. This won’t damage your natural tooth, but it will change it. Once Dr. Stern has reshaped your tooth, he’ll take a mold and send it to a dental laboratory, where your customized crown will be made.
Crafting your dental crown can take several weeks, so Dr. Stern will place a temporary crown over your tooth in the meantime. The temporary crown will protect your tooth until your permanent crown is ready.
Your Second Appointment
Once your permanent crown is ready, you’ll return to our Willoughby Hills office for your second appointment. Dr. Stern will then remove the temporary crown and clean your tooth. Then, he’ll securely place your permanent crown to complete the process. Now you’re ready to leave our office with a beautiful smile.
