Patients in Willoughby Hills, OH Are Learning about Veneers and What to Expect from The Procedure

Woman with perfect smile

Porcelain dental veneers are very thin shells, which are made to adhere to the front surface of a tooth to cover any aesthetic issues that your smile may be suffering from. These issues could include tooth discoloration, a chipped or broken tooth, or gaps between teeth. A porcelain veneer is made to match the shape and color of your natural teeth so that nobody will ever know you have had any work done. If you are suffering from an issue that could be corrected, by getting a dental veneer, and live in the Willoughby Hills, OH area, then Dr. Michael Stern and the team at Smile Brighter Willoughby Hills would love to help you.

Preparing for Veneers

Before receiving your veneer, a preliminary appointment will need to be scheduled, during which available options will be discussed, including how many veneers you would like. If veneers are deemed a good fit for your situation, x-rays will be taken so your dentist can evaluate the health of your teeth and isolate any instances of tooth decay or gum disease.
You will need to get sized for your veneers by having a very slight layer of your enamel removed from the surface of your tooth using a very gentle grinding tool. Once this is complete, a mold will be taken of your teeth, which will be sent into a lab where the veneers will be custom made just for you. While you wait for the veneers to come in, you will receive temporary veneers to cover your teeth.

Receiving your Veneers

The typical waiting time for your porcelain veneers to come into the dentist is going to be between 1 and 2 weeks. Once the veneers arrive, you and your dentist will look at them to make sure they are the right custom fit, shape, and color you desire. A teeth cleaning is necessary before receiving the veneers so that no bacteria gets trapped underneath. A grinding tool is then used to gently roughen the surface of your tooth receiving the veneer, and it is then applied using dental cement. A UV light is used to harden this cement, and you are ready to go.
